The Germanic Alliance is a group that includes organizations dedicated to the culture of German-speaking countries – Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. They celebrate this heritage each year with a special luncheon and it will be Saturday, September 15th.
The event is from noon to 2:00 at Teutonia Männerchor’s Sángerhalle and includes an excellent buffet. Our annual luncheon is a wonderful way to celebrate and recognize a living person and deceased person who have promoted or represented Germanic culture in a family-friendly environment.
This year they will be honoring two individuals well-known to our readers. The Historic Honoree is Dr. Thomas E. Starzl (1926-2017). Well known to all Pittsburghers and to the world – his “multiple innovations in surgery and immunology changed the face of modern medicine”
Our Living Honoree is our own Cor Van Maurik, the longest serving President (14 years) in the 164 years of Teutonia Männerchor’s existence. Cor and his late wife Christel, (who assisted in many club activities, presided over a period that brought the club “up to date” and made it attractive to new members.
Entertainment will be provided by the combined District Choruses ( including the Teutonia Männerchor, Damenchor, Jungenchor, Swiss and the Liedertafel Singers and by dance groups - The Alpen Schuhplattlers and G.T.E.V. and D’Lustigen Isartaler. Tickets are $18 for adults and for 12 and under -FREE– available at the Bar at Teutonia Männerchor.
There is no better way to get involved and meet new people at club than volunteer for an event. Teutonia Männerchor members are needed to help with the following Club events in September and October:
If you are available to work any of these events to support OUR club, please contact Becky Brandt via email or call at (412) 486-5925 for additional details. Thank you for your ongoing support of club activities!
